What main jet size should I run? I just removed the factory air filter and air box, now I have a K&N open element filter. I also have Cobra drag pipes with baffles removed. The bike is a 2003 Suzuki Intruder VL1500.

Optional Information:
2003 Suzuki Intruder VL 1500cc

Already Tried:
Changed needle height-no help. Used tape to block off half of air filter-runs much better. Still no high rpm.

Hello Customer (name blocked for privacy),

You did not say if you have a jet kit installed. With that much intake modification you are going to need the adjustable needles to get the mid range working correctly plus the jet kit should have an assortment of main jets. I haven't done a suzuki like yours but I recently did a honda that liked two steps richer on the needle than dynajet recommended and two sizes up on the main. The main jet only effects wide open, full throttle mixture. You know it is right when the bike will pull hard all the way to the rev limiter in fourth gear. Your problem may be that the needles are still too lean and the slides won't open enough to get on to the main jet circuit. If you don't have a jet kit handy and what to experiment until you can get one try going up four sizes on the mains. Generally the bike will run good wide open, high rpm if it is one size lean or one size rich from ideal. Two sizes too lean and it won't rev out, two sizes rich and it will sputter.

I have a dynojet stage 1 jet kit installed now. The main jets are # 126.
